Developers of fighting games are inexplicably being drawn to the PlayStation Vita, making it the go to handheld gaming system. This new image is further reinforced by the announcement that the Dead or Alive series will be arriving on the Vita by early next year.

Yosuke Hayashi, head of Team Ninja, has confirmed that they’re already developing a portable version of the recently released Dead or Alive 5 which will be called Dead or Alive 5 Plus. The announcement was made on IGN’s official YouTube channel but precious little detail was released. Although, the Plus added to the title hints that new features might be added. What extra features or content that might be included is anyone’s guess. DLC released for the series has so far been limited to additional costumes for the game’s characters.
Dead or Alive 5 was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last September. The game play picks up two years from where the previous game ended, with a new DOATEC Corporation holding another tournament. Aside from the Story Mode, DOA also has offline game modes like Time Attack, Survival, plus an online multiplayer mode. The game also has a new Power Blow feature that lets players force their adversary into Danger Zones.
Dead or Alive 5 Plus is set to be released early in 2013, but no specifics have been released yet.
