Gigabyte is giving a whole new meaning to sleek and ultra-light notebooks with the introduction of its two new models namely U2440 and U2442. The two laptops which measure at 14 inches feature GeForce graphics of NVIDIA and Intel Core processors of the third generation.

The 4.2 pounds and 0.85 inches thick Gigabyte U2440 is a light and thin notebook which offers discrete graphics at a cheaper starting price than most ultrabooks. Though it may be argued if it’s an ultrabook in the whole essence of the word, it still possesses the old-school notebook standards which make it undeniably portable.
The Gigabyte U2440 sports a display of 1366 x 768 pixels, a processor of Ivy Bridge, a GeForce GT 630M graphics of NVIDIA, a RAM of 2 to 4GB, a hard drive space of up to 750GB, and an optional solid state disk of 32GB. It includes duo USB 2.0 ports, a single USB 3.0 port, webcam and mic of 1.3MP, stereo speakers, headphone jacks, Ethernet, HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi of 802.11b/g/n. The laptop’s aluminum case measures at 13.2” x 9.5” x 0.85”. It’s packed with a 4-cell battery and an optional 6-cell battery which may add a few notches to its weight.

On the other hand, the Gigabyte U2442 has a screen resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels. Its configuration is set at either 2GB or 4GB of RAM. It has an SSD of 128GB or a hard drive having the capacity of either 750 GB or 1 TB. It also includes USB 2.0, two USB 3.0 ports, a sound system from THX TruStudio Pro and an HDMI output of 1.4.
The Gigabyte U2442 has a unique feature designed for those who have issues with battery power. Whether it’s turned on or turned off, you can easily check the remaining battery power by simply pushing the laptop pad’s right-click button. It weighs at a mere 1.57 kg with dimensions set at 339 x 233 x 18.5 – 21 mm. It’s powered by a Lithium-polymer battery with 4000 mAh capacity.
The Gigabyte U2440 and U2442 are priced at $ 699 and $ 999-$ 1,299 respectively. Both laptops will have a double coming out party in June this year.
