From the Pixelmator blog:

A whopping total of 500,000 downloads in just a single week have made Pixelmator 2.2 Blueberry our most successful release ever. Again. Only this time, the number of downloads was double that of Pixelmator 2.1 Cherry, which had “only” 250,000 downloads in two weeks.

And as if that wasn’t enough already, you surprised us yet again. Thanks to you, Pixelmator is now the highest rated app on the Mac App Store—a complete five-star app.

Thank you so much for all of this!

The update also set a new record as their most successful release to date! The previous record was held by Pixelmator 2.1, which hit 250,000 downloads in two weeks. The update came out last Thursday, and is highly recommended whether you’ve tried previous versions or not. It’s available now for $ 14.99 from the App Store.

Congrats, Pixelmator!

Google+ Surpasses Twitter…at Least on Paper

87533 McKayla Not Impressed Google+ Surpasses Twitter…at Least on Paper

For years, the social media landscape has remained largely unchanged. Sure, you have things like Pinterest and Instagram popping up, but the big things for business have consistently been Marketing with Twitter and Facebook. Google+ was designed to be the Facebook killer, but it hasn’t accomplished that, not by a long-shot. What Google’s social network HAS done, just this week, is take one step up the podium.

The new Global Web Index results are out, and Google+ has more users than Twitter. Not surprisingly, both networks are still far, far behind Facebook. The numbers break down like this: Twitter has 21% of global internet users using their service, Google+ has 25%, and Facebook has a mighty 51%.

What does this mean for your marketing? Honestly, not a lot. You should be sure you have your Google+ page set up, and that your local listing is accurate, but there just isn’t a vibrant community of real users on the service. The numbers are deceptive due to Google’s integrated services model, where you need a Google+ account to do other things on the web. The Google+ network itself is actually still bordering on a ghost-town, especially when compared to the furious activity on both Facebook and Twitter.

Google does have plans to change this in the future. YouTube is currently the third largest network, tied with Twitter. It’s been suggested that Google will make a Google+ account mandatory for anyone who wants to use YouTube. If they actually enforce that, you can bet Google+ will suddenly be a real rival to Facebook in terms of sheer user volume, if not in user activity.

Hot on the heels of Apple’s all-time-record quarterly financial report yesterday afternoon, new data from research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech reveals that Apple’s iOS platform is growing faster than Android, and surpassed Android in Q4 2011 sales with 44.9 percent U.S. market share, compared to Android’s 44.8.

As Reutersreports, much of this growth is due to the iPhone 4S launch in October, and the continued popularity and strong sales of the device over other competing smartphones.

Additionally, Kantar states that Apple’s share in the U.K. market is now at 34%, marking a huge 22 percent gain year-over-year. Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director at Kantar, stated the following:

Apple has continued its strong sales run in the US, UK and Australia over the Christmas period. Overall, Apple sales are now growing at a faster rate than Android across the nine countries we cover.

The results are especially impressive considering that Apple only offers three models of the iPhone, while there are hundreds of Android-based smartphones available across all markets. Considering that Apple sells more iPhones per day than babies born, however, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise.
