Renault Twizy Review Shows Its Weirdness, Irks Drivers?

Renault sure does know how to make a statement. With its new Renault Twizy, the company has successfully introduced an electric car that’s so unlike Tesla sedans. Apparently, car is designed to be eclectic with its shell-like cabin and funny-looking wheel.

Anyway, electric sedans that have been introduced in the past have always had the problem when it comes to their prices. They are just too much expensive for such a minute car. Thankfully, Renault has found a way to ensure that the Twizy will come out affordably since the price for the eye-catching car starts at 6,690 euros..

During its debut, Renault has specifically introduced the Twizy as a city-car. This means, it performs best when one is in a crowded city street and needs to get some place fast.

Despite its “affordable” price, the Twizy has some weird features. One of which is its scissor doors which has plastic upper windows and translucent lower glass. In order to open the upper windows, a zipper is put in place instead of study locks. The said door will also cost users an add-on price of about 1,000 euros.

Another unique and disturbing feature of the car is its cabin which has small gaps all over the place. Since it has a lot of holes, and the door is unlike any other usual car-doors, no secure lock is in place. With this, leaving things in the car is very unsafe. Also, when it rains or the weather is not good, water and more air may circulate inside the cabin.

Others have also commented that the Twizy’s dashboard needs a lot of improvement since the placement of indicators and such do not help for ease of usability. The electric sedan also does not have a rear view mirror, no air-conditioning or heating system, and no gears.

Charging the car takes about 3.5 hours when plugged into a 240V of domestic socket in Europe. The battery of the Twizy, which has an estimated usage of about 4,500 to 9,00 miles in a year) is actually not for sale. Apparently, Twizy batteries are leased from Renault for about 0.15 euros per mile for a one year rent.

On the other hand, despite all that it lacks, drivers who were able to use the Renault Twizy agreed on one thing, they had fun using the car. Apparently, the weirdness and simplicity of the car is also its appeal since drivers get to feel like they’re just playing in a go-kart range. They said that car speed can reach up to 50mph.

If you don’t mind getting a car with very few accessories, then check out Renault’s new baby. On the other hand, if you prefer to have better wheels, a glass roof, and some convenience kit, then you might need to say goodbye to more cash.

Renault Alpine A110-50: Concept Release Includes Carbon Fiber Frame

It’s been 50 years since the Alpine A110 “Berlinette” was produced and released to the market, so what is Renault planning to do in celebration of this popular sports car’s anniversary? Make it a little brother.

The Monaco Grand Prix is the first to get an eyeful of the French automaker’s latest designs called the Alpine A110-50, but pictures are out on the Internet and the car is a beauty. Renault claims that it took some of the best features the Berlinette had and mixed them in with its own DeZir concept, giving the car a wide, low-slung body made of carbon-fiber, some elegant curves, half-domed yellow LED hood lights, air intakes on both sides, twin scissor doors, a split-wing rear spoiler and the very same iconic blue paint of the original vehicle that lent its name to the color- Alpine Blue. It’s enough to give fans of the original car more than just a small twinge of nostalgia and make heads of newer fans turn.

Of course, the A110-50 is not only a beautiful thing, as it’s a sports car and is powered by an engine made by Renault itself, the 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 V4Y mid-rear engine that has 400hp, something the manufacturer picked up from its experiences with the Mégane Trophy and viewable through a rear window. To properly support the power this engine can give, the rest of the car needs to be dedicated to racing as well. A low-slung body means the A110-50 has a low center of gravity with a weight distribution with 47.8% on the front wheels, F1-style transmission with a semi-automatic gearbox of just six speeds, and a paddle on the steering wheel and pedal that both act as the clutch, allowing the driver to act on his preferences. Aside from this, there are no driving aids whatsoever and the cockpit is completely free of anything that may distract from driving, meaning the car has no traction control or fancy tech that beep or speak, giving it what Renault calls “pure driving sensations”. After all, what rally car needs them?

Unfortunately, there’s no actual car to fawn over, and the A110-50 is still a design made for the A110′s anniversary, so there’s no pricing nor release information and Renault cant guarantee that it can be funded unless the car is sold in the US and China. However, the manufacturer has yet to come up with a final decision on the car’s future, so those who want it should keep their fingers crossed for a favorable announcement.
