Huawei A199 Is A Mid-End Jelly Bean Phone For China

Chinese Huawei had released its flagship devices, including the Ascend D2 and Mate this year but that didn’t stop the company from unveiling another 5-inch device, the A199. It shares similar specs with Ascend D2 including its display size, the quad-core K3V2 CPU 1.5Ghz, a RAM at 2Gb, a 720p IPS display, a microSD slot (32Gb max capacity). Internal storage can reach 8GB while the running OS is Android’s latest Jelly Bean (Android 4.1).

The externals include an 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera while power is provided by a 2,150mAh battery inside the 0.35 inch-thick device with a weight of 160g or 5.6 ounces. Because of its dual-SIM support particularly with CDMA/GSM/EV-DO which are popular in emerging markets and China, the smartphone could be headed to these areas in due time except in China where it is already expected to go on sale in a week’s time. But a U.S. bound A199 in the near future might have a different name and covering, that is, if guessing is alright.

Compared to the previous iterations, the Huawei A199 phone is slimmer with its 8.9mm profile. Even with that common capacitive touch-screen a 720p display is not really bad. Some of the specs are downgrades from the previous iterations but it does not mean the phone is cheap. In fact its dual SIM-support is something that makes it attractive to all and sundry in the emerging markets. No price details have been provided for now.

12-Dollar Phone Dissected; Has MP3 and Bluetooth Inside!

Surely almost everyone can now afford to buy a mobile phone. Even kids who are still attending elementary school can already tinker with their phone’s keypad and explore its several functions. Still, the thought of discovering a phone that both functions well and costs incredulously low is something that doesn’t really happen very often. When it does, it’s bound to create mixed reactions between those who feel amused and those who feel betrayed.

If you’re from Shenzhen, China or at least planning to make it as your next travel destination, don’t forget to include the Mingtong Digital Mall in your itinerary. Reports are saying that inside the mall, you could find a mobile phone that has the ridiculous price of just 12 dollars. Though the price can be surprising, the phone’s features prove to be surprising as well. For 12 dollars, the phone gives you Bluetooth connectivity, an OLED display, a quad-band GSM, and an MP3 player.

Those who are intrigued by the phone’s cheap price had decided to scrutinize it further by tearing it down. It doesn’t matter if they forget how to assemble it again anyway as they can just easily replace it with another $ 12 worth of mobile phone. The first thing that they found out is the absence of screws. For the case to be closed, they just needed to be snapped together.

Next, the phone doesn’t have any connectors inside. Everything else is soldered directly to the phone’s board. For purposes of shipping and storage, you would just have to flip a switch in order to disconnect the battery. Moreover, you would notice that there is no secondary protection circuit surrounding the battery.

Bluetooth function is provided by the antenna which looked like a small length of wire. Other features include 32-bit 260 MHz processor, RAM of 8MB, dual-color OLED, a keypad with backlights, an edge embedded with decorative lights and two major ICs such as Vanchip VC5276 and Mediatek MT6250DA.

The latter is rumored to be selling in volume for the price of less than $ 2. The 12-dollar cellphone is totally unbranded, unlocked, and not tied to any services, carriers, or stores. Hit the comments below if you intend to get one given the opportunity.

Instagram App For Windows Phone: Rumored Release This Year

Instagram is undoubtedly one of the more popular apps being used right now, and those with Android and iPhone handsets have already gone to town with it. However, the app hasn’t reached the Windows Phone yet. Despite Microsoft’s claims that handsets running on the Windows Phone can access 46 of the 50 top apps, Instagram isn’t among the 46. But now there’s no need for loyal Nokia followers to feel left out as the company has admitted, albeit inadvertently, that Instagram is coming soon to the Windows Phone.

A Nokia user who couldn’t hold his discontent any longer posted a question on Nokia Sweden’s Facebook page and directly asked about the chances of the Nokia Lumia 920 having Instagram. Shortly after, a representative from Nokia replied in the affirmative but said no exact date was set yet. Of course, this isn’t the exact translation of the message.

The reply, which was immediately noticed by consumers, can be considered as the company’s second confirmation of the apps arrival. The first confirmation happened on Twitter way back in March.

There have been massive calls and feverish lobbying for a first-party Instagram app to be made for the Windows Phone. It recently reached new heights when Nokia spearheaded a Twitter campaign using the #InstaWithLove and application. Nokia handset users can take a picture, use that app’s Instagram like filter and post photos that they hope will move the company to create a real application. But whether the movement has created the result consumers wanted remains to be seen.

Nokia Phablet to Rival Galaxy Note; Super Lumia Phone Soon (Rumor)

There have been reports that Microsoft is working on revamping the Windows Phone 8 so it can support full-HD displays. On the heels of that, rumors have also surfaced that its partner Nokia is concurrently working on a phablet that will rival the Samsung Galaxy Note.

Admittedly, reports that Nokia will be releasing several flagship devices before the year ends started surfacing when news hit that a new Microsoft update will include 1080p resolution support for the Windows Phone 8. Right now, Windows Phone 8 can only support 720p, WVGA and WXGA resolutions.   Several sources claiming to have insider knowledge have stated that Nokia is working on a supersized phone that’s as big as the Galaxy Note but with better specs.

Reports about two new Lumia handsets have also been making the rounds. One handset will be Windows Phone-powered and will also have a 41mp PureView camera. The other device appears to be a lighter version of the Nokia 920. The two handsets are rumored to have the same specs but with different processors, one being a dual-core and the other a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor.

So far, Nokia hasn’t mentioned anything about two new Lumia phones being developed so it’s best to think of them as just rumors for now. But if they are true, Nokia might roll-out the phablet and the two new handsets by July.
