Casetop Turns Your Phone Into A Laptop, Fund It Today

With all the new and amazing gadgets coming out these days, keeping all the apps, music, photos and contact numbers you have synchronized can sometimes be a pain. However, a new project at Kickstarter might just be the answer to this particular problem. Livi Design has come up with Casetop, a novel design that can turn any smartphone into a laptop.

We’ve all heard of how certain smartphones can act as laptops. Well, Casetop takes it one step further by really turning a handset into a compact laptop. All one has to do is to plug the handset into the device and voila, instant computer! From the specs, it seems that Casetop is one very handy device. It’s a thin 0.8” and boasts of an 11.1-inch screen with 720p resolution, a 78-key keyboard and 2 High Fidelity speakers. And in one slick design move, Casetop’s designers has made it so your handset becomes the touchpad. Casetop also has HDMI and MHL video inputs, audio output, microUSB, an “always powered” USB for easy charging of other devices and a 56wh battery that’s said to be capable of powering the device for around 10 hours.

Livi Design has designed the Casetop to work with any smartphone that has Bluetooth and a video out option. The list of supported devices on Livi Design’s homepage is quite extensive including iPhone, Android and BlackBerry 10 handsets; the company is claiming that Casetop can work with around 200 or more Android devices.

According to Livi Design’s Kickstarter page, the design group is aiming to reach its goal of $ 300,000 by June 2 and is projecting a December 2013 delivery date. The $ 300,000 seed money is estimated to be enough for an initial production of around 1,000 Casetop units. For those interested in helping get this project off the ground, you can pledge anywhere from a very low $ 3 to a high $ 900. There are seven backing levels and each one has corresponding benefits. However, if you want to score a white Casetop then you must pledge a minimum of $ 220. On the other hand, a generous pledge of more than $ 900 will net you a lot of goodies, like an engraved black Casetop, a special than you video from the Livi Design team and credits on the website.

Intel North Cape Hybrid Laptop: Long Battery Life From Preview

Back in CES, we’ve seen the Intel North Cape hybrid laptop/tablet powered by 4th-generation Haswell Chips. It was a pretty interesting piece of gadget equipped with sleek ultrabook design and detachable wireless display. Today, we’re excited to see this gizmo once more at Intel’s Innovation Futures Showcase in London.

As a refresher, the North Cape ultrabook is powered by the high-end Haswell processors compared to Bay Trail Atom processors for lower-priced Intel tablets. The hybrid ultrabook has a sleek 13-inch full HD (1080p) display, which can be detached and functions as a wireless tablet with 11.6-inch panel size.

One of the things Intel is most proud of about the North Cape is its power efficiency. With the Haswell chip onboard, the hybrid device can last up to 10 hours in tablet mode (additional 3 hours with the keyboard battery pack) that is at par with current low-powered ARM and Atom tablets in the market. Another key feature to look at is the new docking design for the North Cape. Intel is said to include a one-button electric latch that easily detaches the wireless display from the keyboard.

There’s no clear shipping date for the Haswell-powered North Cape laptops but many are expecting to see this gizmo on Computex in Taipei come June. More specs might also be revealed on the event. Stay tuned.

Inhon Blade 13 Carbon: Price Revealed For New Thinnest Laptop

If you’re one of those who want their laptops to be so thin and light, then you may be interested to know that there’s actually one of its kind from Inhon, a Taiwanese computer making company. Now dubbed as the world’s thinnest and lightest, the new Blade 13 Carbon weighs a mere 870 grams and occupies only 10.7mm of space when it comes to thickness.

These measurements are enough to topple down Apple’s MacBook Air which has 1.35kg of weight and 17mm of thickness. Still not convinced? The new laptop from Inhon is lighter by 5g when compared with NEC’s LaVie Z that weighs 875g and it’s also thinner by 2mm when compared with NEC’s Lavie X which measures 12.8mm.

The Inhon Blade 13 Carbon is packed with impressive specs all crammed inside its thin and light body. It features a CPU of either Core i5 or i7, full HD 1080p screen of 13 inches, SSD of either 128GB or 256GB, RAM of 4GB, and Windows 8 OS.

Pricing however is not as ‘thin’ as customers hope it would be. The super ultraportable laptop sells at $ 1350 and will start shipping in Taiwan in June. There’s no sign that the Blade 13 Carbon is arriving in US shores though its thin and light features are enough to make MacBook Air loyalists feel a little regretful.
