Galaxy S5 Audio To Be Powered By Wolfson WM5110 (Possibility)
Are you excited to see what’s in store for Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy S5? We’ll give you a quick peek on one of its advanced hardware parts courtesy of audio tech specialist Wolfson.
The most advanced audio chip from the company, the WM5110 chip, is expected to be in Samsung Galaxy S devices next year. Current audio components being used are the WM1811 for the global Samsung GS3 and the WM5102 for the Exynos-powered Galaxy S IV. The next-gen WM5110, however, proves to be superior compared to its predecessors by incorporating new features that will improve voice and audio performance of handsets.
First off, it utilizes 24-bit and 192 Khz sample rate which is considered “better than CD quality”. You don’t see it being used on smartphones other than independent music players like iRiver’s AK100. In addition, the audio chip uses quad-core SoC with four digital signal processors which put it on high-end market compared to the WM1811 and WM5102. Of course, the benefit of using the WM5110 includes better noise cancelling performance that can be observed on incoming and outgoing calls; as well as power efficiency when using the handset’s voice recognition software like Samsung S Voice.
