Apple to Unveil New iMacs, Retina MacBook Pros, and More During Fall iPhone & iPad Event

While Apple certainly didn’t exclude Macs from their WWDC announcements, with the unveiling of a gorgeous new Mac Pro and lightning-fast MacBook Air with far better battery life, many have been left wondering about the Macs Apple didn’t mention. Both the iMac and the Retina MacBook Pro are due for an update – and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo staked her bets on new iMacs to be released this summer.

So where are these new Macs? The answer may lie in production delays, a desire to straddle Mac launches to prevent backlogs and shortages, or some other factor – nobody knows for certain, of course. According to information we’ve received, however, we’ll find out soon enough – at Apple’s fall iPhone event in August or September.

According to our source, Apple is planning to unveil updated iMacs, Mac Minis, and new Retina MacBook Pros at (or perhaps alongside) their next-gen iPhone launch event. The new Macs are expected to include Intel’s latest Haswell processors, PCI Express SSDs like Apple added to the new MacBook Air, and 802.11ac WiFi.

Further, Apple is also expected to reveal the pricing and release date of their new Mac Pro at the event, as well as release dates for both OS X Mavericks and iOS 7, and of course the expected announcement of new iPhone and iPad hardware. We’ve also heard that Apple may be preparing a Retina version of their Thunderbolt display, although our source stopped short of claiming it would be revealed at the same time.

Apple has announced new Mac hardware at their iOS events in the past – such as last year, when they unveiled the Retina MacBook Pro and new iMacs alongside the iPad mini and 4th-gen iPad. The event would be an ideal time to launch the hardware, allowing Apple to efficiently plan numerous product launches on the same day. It would also help Apple avoid lost sales versus announcing the updates at their WWDC keynote.

Rene Ritchie of iMore has previously noted that Apple is planning an August event to unveil new iOS devices. The August event claim has also been echoed by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, although the exact timing is subject to change depending on factors such as production delays, or Apple deciding to push the event back for some other reason.

We’ve also heard thatApple might separate the announcements into two separate events, although it’s unclear which products would be announced at one event versus another.

It sounds like Apple may have quite a treat in store for us this fall – new iPhones, new iPads, updates to iOS and OS X, and great new Mac hardware all in one massive debut. Let’s hope it will all be worth the wait!

Plant Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare To Launch on Fall

There’s only a day left before the much-awaited 3-day Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) commences at the Los Angeles Convention Center. And while gamers and pundits alike anticipate Microsoft and Sony to discuss more about their new game consoles, an interesting promo material for the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was spotted.

PopCap Games, a popular game publisher and subsidiary of EA, is busy working on the game’s sequel that is expected to get an official introduction at E3. The PvZ banner can be seen with cactus, dandelions and zombie donning a cowboy outfit. While we heard a couple of details about EA and PopCap working on PvZ 2, this is the first time we heard about the Garden Warfare. It’s still unclear if it is the same project but we’re pretty sure that all details will be divulged later on.

The title (Garden Warfare) which sounds related to popular Modern Warfare series, would have a multiplayer first-person shooter mode, a seemingly appropriate gameplay if you ask us. EA is reportedly planning to release succeeding installments for the PvZ series this year so it’s possible that Garden Warfare will launch after the teased Plant vs. Zombies 2 (planned release date is on June 18th). If you haven’t seen it, check the teaser video below.

Big Changes in Store for AppleCare and AppleCare+ This Fall

AppleInsider reports that Apple has informed tech staff that major changes to the AppleCare and AppleCare+ are on their way, and will be enacted starting in the fall. The announcement allegedly took place in a town hall session on Thursday. The company reportedly aims to cut costs while making the service more attractive to customers.

AppleInsider:

The town hall session was led by Apple Vice President Tara Bunch, who revealed a set of after sales policy shifts would soon be rolling out across the U.S., and eventually the world, with many of the changes referred to under the “One Apple” brand, said a person familiar with the matter. While Bunch was referred to as Vice President of AppleCare, AppleInsider cannot confirm this assertion. On her LinkedIn page, Bunch lists her current job as simply “Vice President at Apple,” but it is known that she was previously vice president of Global Customer Support Operations at Hewlett-Packard prior to joining Apple in 2012.

Apple reportedly expects to save $ 1 billion a year by replacing parts on defective iPhones, instead of replacing the entire device, as it does currently.

Apple stores are reported to have the tools to replace speakers, receivers, home buttons, the vibrator motor and battery. Beginning in June, that will be expanded to  include display replacement, and by July cameras, sleep/wake buttons and logic boards will be added to the in-store repair capabilities list. AppleInsider reports that in addition, employees will have access to advanced diagnostics tools that can remotely assess hardware issues and relay the data directly to technicians, allowing for quicker turnaround times.

The site also reports that Apple will be changing the way its AppleCare service works. Currently, AppleCare is attached to individual devices. The customer is required to purchase a new AppleCare plan for each iOS device or Mac computer they purchase. The new plan will be a subscription-based service, which will be attached to a customer, not an individual device.

AppleInsider says the new subscription service could include “exclusive” 24/7 support, but notes the final feature set of the plan is not finalized, and could still change. The new AppleCare could also extend the current complimentary free phone support that is included for 90 days with every product sold. The new version could extend that support to one year or more, and the company is reportedly considering other live support options such as chat via iMessage.

No information on pricing is as yet available.

iWatch and Apple Television: Possible Release on Fall Until 2014

Apple fans that are keen on purchasing the latest products from the Cupertino-based company in the summer may have to hold on to their shopping money just a little longer. According to CEO Tim Cook, the company would most likely be releasing new products during fall and all throughout the following year. He even added that Apple will be introducing new software and services along with its new products.

Still, fans have tried to squeeze out more information by asking point blank if the company meant that there won’t be new product releases during the summer. However, instead of directly answering the question, Apple just reiterated that they are releasing some really nice stuff starting this year’s fall season.

Fans who feel a bit impatient may not be totally blamed for their behavior. With all those rumors rolling in about the upcoming iWatch and Apple TV, it’s no wonder why everyone is so excited to be the first among their family and colleagues to own such devices. Bragging time can be contagious but nobody can help it anyway since many believe that purchasing an Apple product is really a great buy.

However, fans are not the only one waiting for a new product from Cupertino. Six months after the iPad was launched in October, investors and analysts have interpreted the absence of new products as a sign that the company may be experiencing some decline.
