2014 Toyota Corolla: Leaked Info before Release

The Toyota Corolla has been around since the late eighties; and while Toyota sells a lot of these units, the model can’t really be described as a trailblazer. This has been a source of discontent for a lot of Toyota fans who feel that the Corolla is falling behind its rivals in terms of design and features. However, rumors have been floating around for months that a revamped 2014 Corolla will be unveiled towards the end of the year. And an order guide that was inadvertently posted at a Toyota dealer’s site seems to confirm this.

Previously leaked images of the new Toyota Corolla show that the car’s exterior has been spruced up and looks like a merging of the Camry and the recently released Furia concept. The front appears to be equipped with a chrome grill and sleek headlights with LED running lights while the back boasts of a sculpted trunk. There’s no word yet on the car’s dimensions or interiors, but analysts have pegged it to be roomier and longer while leaked photos suggest that the new Corolla sports a multi-function steering wheel, chrome gauges, state-of-the-art navigation system, a push-button start and softex leather.

There have also been hints of some big changes in the mechanical aspect of the 2014 Corolla. The vehicle will still run on a 1.8-liter four-cylinder but will have the new Valvematic system with a continuously variable valve timing and lift. A big, but maybe not so welcome, surprise is that base models still have the archaic four-speed automatic. However, a sixth gear is added to the manual transmission and consumers have the option to go for the continuously variable transmission or CVT on higher trim models. While Toyota is still keeping mum on the performance level of the 2014 Corolla, it’s expected to perform better than the 132hp it currently offers and to be more energy efficient.

The 2014 Corolla might have been conspicuously absent during the recent New York Car Show, but Toyota is making up for that intended omission by hosting a private event exclusively for the media sometime next month. More concrete information about the sedan is expected to be released then.

Nokia Lumia 925 (Catwalk) Gets Leaked Before Announcement

We’ve previously reported about Nokia’s mysterious Windows Phone 8 smartphone teased in the UK during the weekend. The handset, which is expected to be unveiled later today, is believed to be the Lumia 925 with rumored codename: Catwalk.

The ad campaign went to present the Phone’s dual-LED flash and protruding lens which led techies to believe that it could be the true PureView camera phone Nokia is developing to succeed its Symbian-powered Nokia 808 PureView. As you all know, the latter didn’t succeed very well in capturing the hearts of many camera phone enthusiasts due to its bulk and OS.

It may seem that Nokia is concentrating on building better camera phones as a strategy to penetrate the mobile market. While its upcoming high-end models including the Lumia 920 and 928 carry the PureView branding, they have far less megapixels than the 808 (which has 41-megapixel sensor, by the way) and instead rely on optical image stabilization to produce quality images. The Nokia 808, on the other hand, produce average pictures at 5-megapixels despite its huge sensor. The Finnish phone maker could improve this on the upcoming Lumia 925.

Other than the metallic design and audio jack seen on the low-res image leaked above, no details were given regarding its innards. It might be a good time to review the video teaser below and wait for a few hours until Nokia’s London event. Stay tuned.
