What’s all this hoopla about smartphones getting slimmer? The web is currently full of hype about the previously reported Oppo’s Android powered smartphone that is 6.65mm thin. Dubbed as “Finder”, the mobile phone brand from China claims theirs is the thinnest smartphone yet.
They may have solid claim to that because next in line is the 6.68mm thin Huawei Ascend P1 S. As a point of comparison, the iPhone is 9.3mm thick. The Oppo Finder also has a customized Android 4.0 platform, we hear; not sure if that helps make it even thinner.
The Super AMOLED Plus display measures 4.3-inches. Since that is less bulky than an LCD display, Oppo must really be determined on being THE thinnest. Packed in this wafer is a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, with built-in storage of 16GB. And of course, there’s enough space for a front camera capable of video capture (1.3-megapixel, at 720p) and one more out back (8-megapixel, 1080p).
As of this writing, there are no details from stores and distributors. We don’t know if we have to fly to the Far East just to see this smartphone for ourselves. But we do know that pre-orders will start pouring in on June 6, 2012. If you want one, get 3,999 yuan ready. That’s $ 632 slipping off your fingers. Not bad for the thinnest phone ever (for now).
